For me health and fitness is a way of life and a lifelong pursuit.
I have been an outdoor instructor since 2005 and a pharmacist since 2003. These seem like very different careers, but the more I think about it, the more similarities I see; both are very people orientated and health related.
I love bringing my experience as an outdoor instructor and a health professional together to offer individualised person centred, goal orientated fitness programmes for all levels. As a person I am inclusive, non-judgmental and supportive as well as enthusiastic and ambitious for my clients.
While running a high blood pressure clinic I realised that there was a common theme among my patients when discussing lifestyle factors. Many were not sure where to start or had no confidence to begin exercising, they couldn’t see themselves going to the gym or wearing lycra!
At the same time I was starting to apply structured and progressive strength training to my own personal outdoor sports. This brought so many benefits to my guiding in terms of injury prevention, less fatigue and more energy to spend with clients. It also brought benefits to my own hobbies, with increased performance on the bike, longer adventures and better results in mountain marathons and other running events.
Bringing these two strands together, I created Outdoor Fitness Scotland to bring the benefits of health, fitness and the outdoors to everybody.
